Harry Potter — what book did the filmmakers read?

Ok, so L and I went to go see the new Harry Potter movie yesterday. I’ll preface this by saying that we’re both pretty serious fans (me especially), and we were really looking forward to it. I was excited to see what the new director would do with it, especially since I loved Y Tu Mama Tambien.

But, what happened to the book, here?! I know that movies based on books need to be changed somewhat. I get that. But why on earth would they change all the things they did in this one?? I just don’t get it. Why give him the Firebolt at the end of the movie rather than before the holidays? That makes no sense to me. And, hello!? Where was Crookshanks in this whole thing? He’s a pretty large part in the book, and yet he’s almost completely left out. Where the fuck did those shrunken heads come from? And, dammit, where’s the explanation about the Shrieking Shack? And Harry’s patronus being a stag because of his father?

*sigh*

I hate being disappointed in this movie. I really want to love it. And though I really do think it was a good movie, when I put the book into the mix it just doesn’t make sense.

Oh yeah, I knew about the new director, and I liked what he did as far as scenery and charater and direction. I just think they blew the plot :(
